What Is a Business Item?

A business item is a good, service, information, or object that combines tangible and intangible attributes. It can be sold to a customer or used internally. A company may determine which business items to stock in its stores. Determining the appropriate product hierarchy can help increase sales and streamline internal processes. Conforming to the hierarchy also increases the likelihood that customers receive the product information they need.

A common confusion is whether a particular item is categorized as a consumer product or a business product. The distinction between these two categories is based on the product’s use. Flour purchased by a supermarket for resale to consumers is classified as a consumer product, but flour bought by a bakery for the production of pastries is considered a business product. A pickup truck that is used to transport lawn mowers for a landscaping business is considered a consumer product, but if it is used to haul tools and equipment to and from job sites it is considered a business product.여자창업

There are six subcategories of business products: installations; accessory equipment; raw materials; component parts and processed materials; maintenance, repair, and operating supplies; and business services. Installations, for example, are capital-intensive, high-dollar equipment used directly in the production of other products. Some installations, such as conveyor systems, robotics equipment, and machine tools, are custom designed and built for specialized situations. Nondurable products that are replaced regularly, such as janitorial and management consulting services, are considered expense items.창업아이템
